Transporters Strike

An indefinite nationwide transporters' strike has been called on by the All India Motor Transport Congress commenced from Midnight of 5th January 2009 to press for reduction in fuel price.

The transporter strike is hitting people hard. It was not speculated to be at such a great magnitude. It has affected the supply of basic essential goods and has had an impact on almost every sector of the business and now the oil companies are also on a strike. The striking officers are demanding a wage hike among other things.

Due to the transport & oil PSU officers strike, all supplies of Petrol & diesel are affected and pumps in many parts of the country are going dry and more are expected to run out of stock.

This has resulted in vehicles staying off the roads .Over 5, 00,000 trucks are currently off the road to support the demands of transporters.

The Nhava Sheva Container Operators’ Welfare Association (NSCOWA), which is involved in serving the Port and Container Freight Stations (CFSs) in the JN port, has hinted at joining the ongoing transporters’ strike called by the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC).

Because of the pertaining situations in the country , there is a halt in any movement within the country or even within the city. There is an expected delay in clearance and delivery of shipments. PMR will continuously be updating the status on the website from time to time.
