Foreign citizens who want to stay in India for more than 180 days on a student, business, medical, research, or work visa must register with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO). A Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO) with authority over the foreigner's residence must get FRRO registration within 14 days of arrival in India. Pakistani visitors entering India are expected to register with the FRRO within 24 hours of their arrival. Except for Afghan citizens who visit India on a visa valid for 30 days or less and furnish the Indian Mission/FRRO/FRO with their local address in India, all Afghan nationals, regardless of the length of stay, are obliged to register with the FRRO within 14 days of arrival.

The FRRO Registration Procedure Is As Follows

Procedure For Obtaining FRRO Registration

FRRO Registration Steps

Required Documents For FRRO Registration

The following are the papers necessary for FRRO registration, which vary depending on the kind of Indian visa held by the FRRO registration applicant:

  • A valid passport and visa, as well as four passport-sized colour pictures.
  • Three photocopies of the essential pages of the passport (picture page, page confirming validity, page displaying Indian Immigration's entry stamp).
  • FRRO undertaking letter (3 copies signed by Indian host/ sponsor/ guarantor, plus any valid
  • identity document such as a passport, election identity card, official identity card, PAN card, etc.)
  • Proof of Residency (3 copies of either an electric bill, a telephone bill, a municipal bill, a municipal authority certificate, a leave and licence agreement, or any other legal proof of residence). In the event of a Tourist visa, submitting a letter from the hotel or a receipt of payment is acceptable Rs. 100/- for FRRO registration.
  • Three copies of the terms and conditions of the contract of assignment, including pay, designation, and employment duration, if applying for an Employment visa.
  • Three copies of your PAN card or the application for a PAN card if you're applying for an employment or business visa.
  • In the event of an employment or business visa, a forwarding letter from the concerned company/firm/business venture, fully signed by the authorized signatory and stating the name, designation, phone number, and cell number, is required.
  • In the event of a student visa, three copies of a Bonafide certificate from a school, college, or academic institute for the academic year, stating pertinent information such as the validity of admission and the international student's nationality.
  • In the event of a medical visa, a letter from the concerned hospital is required, supporting medical documentation/diagnostic test findings and a medical certificate stating the tentative treatment term.
  • If the application is enlisted on a medical visa and admitted to the hospital, a medical certificate with a photo of the applicant must be confirmed and verified by a doctor.
